In particular, it was exciting to meet new people who I wouldn't have otherwise met. One of my neighbors came, a nurse from the University of MI ER came, Salsitz family friends came, and of course there were a bunch of people from our school community. I'm so grateful to be a part of this supportive group of people. There was a lot of love in the air.
Another thing about this community I'm so lucky to be a part of... They know food... (I remember back when Chris and I attended the new family welcome dinner at the school and when I saw the spread they had out I thought, "We're going to be okay in this town after all!")

Like I said, when I first pictured this fund raiser, I thought I was just going to be me and maybe two other people knitting in my living room and I had the goal of raising 500 dollars. Last Saturday exceeded my expectations and it was a day I will never forget.
Thank you to everyone who got involved and to Aaron and Emilie for accepting this concept with such grace.
Checks are still arriving in the mail (from Minnesota, California, Florida, Illinois and all over Michigan!)
